Self-guided cycling holidays in Mallorca

Our self-guided cycling holidays in Mallorca give you a house, a bike, maps and GPX files, and then leave you to it. No guide sets the pace and no group waits at the top of the hill. Uli and Stefan have run these weeks since 2010 and answer the phone themselves, seven days a week. You set your own pace and your own breaks.

What self-guided means with us

Self-guided means unguided, not unsupported. All our tours are individual: you start when you like, stop where you like, and if lunch runs long, it runs long. There is no group to keep up with.

You do not have to find anything either. You get maps, GPX files for your phone or GPS and our own arrows on the road signs. On arrival day we fit the bike to you and talk you through the week: where the market is, where the best pa amb oli is served, and which number to call if a tyre goes flat.

And you only ride alone if you want to. In our experience a small group forms on the first evening and heads off together.

Single-centre hub tour or hotel to hotel

Hub tours: one house, six directions

You stay in the same house all week and ride a different stage each day. Your case stays in the room. In the centre of the island that is the Sternfahrt Ariany/Sineu, on the east coast the Sternfahrt Levante, based at a 17th-century finca with a pool and sea view, and all year round from the old town of Artà Levante Premium.

Hotel to hotel: we move the luggage

On the PetitHotel Tour, our cycling holiday with luggage transfer, you ride six stages right across the island, from Felanitx by way of Algaida and Moscari to Alcúdia. We drive your luggage from petit hotel to petit hotel, and it is in the room before you get off the bike.

For experienced riders: once around the island

If a hub tour sounds too gentle, look at the Rundtour Vuelta Mallorca: six stages of 58 to 78 kilometres, some of them on gravel.

What is included in a self-guided week

On our hub tours and the PetitHotel Tour you get:

  • Seven nights in a finca, village house or petit hotel
  • Six day stages along a carefully worked-out route
  • Maps and GPX files for every stage
  • A service hotline seven days a week in English, German and Spanish
  • A personal run-through of the week and bike fitting on arrival day
  • A loaner helmet free of charge, as helmets are compulsory in Spain outside built-up areas

A rental bike is booked on top if you do not bring your own: trekking bike, mountain bike or e-bike, each with a rear rack, pannier and handlebar bag. See bike hire in Mallorca. Exactly what each week includes is listed on the tour pages under cycling tours in Mallorca.

Easy cycling holidays: how fit do you need to be?

If you ride 40 kilometres along a flat route at home on a weekend, you are fit enough. The stages are 40 to 70 kilometres, easy to moderate, with plenty of stops in places where stopping is a pleasure.

There are no big climbs, and the ones that get in the way can be ridden around. On an e-bike it is more relaxed still. And if you want to take a day off on a hub tour, you take it off: pool, market or the train to Palma.

If something comes up on the road

A flat tyre with no puncture kit, a storm, a knee that says no, or a lunch that was simply too good: there are many reasons a stage does not get finished. You send us your location on WhatsApp, we come with the van and bring you and your bike back to the house, usually within 30 to 60 minutes.

For anyone who has booked a cycling week with us, this biketaxi is part of the package, just like the hotline.

When to come to Majorca

The short answer: not in July and August, everything else works. From mid-March the island is green and it is 18 to 24 degrees. In September and October the sea is at 25 degrees. May is our favourite month.
